I’m smiling! As a christian I can totally see the point of what you are saying. I am now learning about reliability and validity of evidence. Fascinating stuff.
I heard in church today a most amazing story. Someone was prayed for in a 40,000 congregation for healing. This particular individual (a lady) had undergone a mastectomy and, IF the story is true, her breast re-grew in front of her eyes. It immediately made me think of your question. Why does God not heal amputees? If, he?can grow back breasts why not limbs?
If this story is true what kind of evidence is this? That God,a super spiritual presence exists? The preacher concerned was arguing that this WAS the power of the holy spirit through faith.
I have recently been going to church- after an absence of quite some time. My feeling is, that I need to be there to search the truth, look at the evidence, read the science and make a decision.
At this moment in time, the jury has not even begun to sum up the evidence, as I have only just started my research. Already, I can see my own professional studies on this subject will help me clarify some previous thinking and help me in my quest.
I have loved seeing this litttle picture. Where do you find them all? Please keep sending us some more, if you have any.
onethoughtfulwoman: I am glad that you are learning about reliability and validity of evidence. As far as reliablity goes, if god makes breasts grow somewhere in the world in response to prayer, then that ought to be repeatable. I bet it was in the Far East, or Africa, or South America somewhere. God, as far as I am aware (and I haven’t done any detailed research on the subject) doesn’t seem to make them grow in Europe. As for validity I’m sure the story has been elaborated as it has been passed on. It would be interesting to meet the woman in question with a doctor and psychiatrist and look at her medical history.
