Spoof Bus Slogan

Sorry, but this amused me.

The Guardian is running a  competition to see what witty slogans readers can come up with as alternatives to the existing slogans on the Atheist Bus Advertising Campaign.  Supporters of the original campaign, which had the slogan, “THERE’S PROBABLY NO GOD. NOW STOP WORRYING AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE.” could perhaps do with some help, especially since the Advertising Standards Authority insisted on the insertion of the word “probably”.

There is now a nifty slogan generator to enable anyone to take part and see what their slogans would look like.

It has to be pointed out that (given that some of the user-generated slogans have already been mistaken for real pics of real buses) that the generator has nothing to do with the Atheist Bus Campaign or the British Humanist Association. The only slogan they’ve ever run or ever will is: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life”.

  1. I think travelling could be made a whole lot more fun with more amusing slogans. There could be a whole new hobby of slogan spotting and some of those nice “I Spy” books I used to collect with different ones to look out for.

I love the idea of a new set of “I Spy” books. It certainly would be weirdly funny for ‘knowing people’ of a non-religious persuasion to go spotting buses. The sad thing is that they are only likely to exist for a brief time, and only in certain cities, so the spotting itinerary would have to be carefully planned.

Your comments reminded me of the (sad) fun we used to have when travelling on long journeys with the children, passing some of the time by trying to see, wave at, and record Eddie Stobart lorries. Happy memories!

That bus slogan generator looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for the tip.
